Just when we thought professional golf’s soap opera couldn’t get any juicier, the PGA Tour has once again swiped left on LIV Golf’s latest sugar daddy offer—this time rejecting a casual $1.5 billion from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). That’s right, folks: the Tour looked at that nine-zero check and basically said, “Money’s great, but… have you met our integrity?
Word on the street is PIF wanted to keep LIV Golf alive and make their head honcho, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, co-chairman of PGA Tour Enterprises. In response, the PGA Tour did its best impression of Judge Smails: “You’ll get nothing and like it.”
TRUMP WANTS A MERGER
Meanwhile, over on Trump Force One (yes, really), 45 himself is still cheerleading a PGA-LIV merger like your uncle yelling “Let ‘em play!” during a rain delay. Trump, who’s hosting another LIV event at Doral, says a merger would be “a great thing for golf.” And hey, if anyone knows mergers, it’s a guy who’s filed more business deals than Phil has driver changes.
THIS ISN’T A SPORT ANYMORE—IT’S A SOAP OPERA
But here’s the kicker—while LIV players are counting their cash and staging shotgun starts with EDM intros, the PGA Tour is over here trying to play moral compass. Think of it as The Bachelor, but instead of roses, it’s driver contracts and awkward glances across the fairway. And despite months of “negotiations,” we’re still stuck in the “we’re just talking” phase.
No deal. No handshake. No shared clubhouses. Just a whole lotta passive-aggressive press releases and a sport that looks more divided than a Sunday four-ball after someone blasts Coldplay from their cart speaker.
So what’s next?
Probably another rejected offer, another hot mic moment, or another new LIV offer with 10 more commas…Another awkward Jay Monahan press conference… And maybe, just maybe, someone from the PGA Tour yelling: “Just Venmo us and stop emailing!
Another reason for us to roast both sides like they’re marshmallows at a LIV afterparty.
Until then, we’ll be over here stocking popcorn and keeping the roast on high.
